How to Download Instagram Reels
Updated: 2026-10-08
Want to keep a Reel on your phone or computer? Here is the quick way, in four steps.
Instagram does not give you a download button on every Reel, so the easiest way is to paste the Reel's link into a downloader and save the MP4 file. This guide shows the whole process.
Only download Reels that are yours or that the creator has allowed you to save. Reels from private accounts can't be downloaded.
Step by step
- Copy the Reel's linkOpen the Reel in Instagram, tap the Share icon (the paper plane) and choose Copy link. On a computer, copy the address from your browser.
- Open the Reels DownloaderGo to the Instagram Reels Downloader page and paste the link into the box. On a phone, the Paste button does it for you.
- Press Get mediaIn a few seconds you will see a preview of the Reel with a Download button. If the server is busy, wait a minute and try again.
- Save the fileThe Reel downloads as an MP4. On Android it appears in your Downloads folder and gallery. On iPhone it goes to the Files app first, see our iPhone guide.
Useful tips
- The Reel must be from a public account.
- A link ending in ?igsh=... works fine. The extra part is ignored.
- If you see a message that Instagram is limiting the server, wait 5 to 10 minutes and try again.
- Use Wi-Fi for large files.

Instagram sometimes restricts requests. Wait 5 to 10 minutes and try the same link again.
No preview appears
Check that the account is public and that you copied the whole link. It should contain /reel/ or /p/.
